This FREE resource was produced as part of our response to the COVID-19 pandemic and is designed to support employers and employees working from home to protect and look after their mental health.
As part of their response to the COVID-19 public health emergency, the government issued guidance which stated that “employers should take every possible step to facilitate their employees working from home” (Cabinet Office, 2020).
For many, working from home has presented many challenges. We know that homeworking itself can cause work-related stress and affect people’s mental health. (HSE, 2020)
“Whether you are a small business or a large corporation, the law requires all employers to assess the risk of work-related stress and put steps in place to tackle those risks, either by removing the risk or reducing it as far as reasonably practicable, as per Regulation 3 of the Management of Health and Safety at Work Regulations 1999” (Buckley et al, 2020).
It is now more important than ever to review risk assessments, which would include homeworking and the risks associated with the same, such as work-related stress. (Buckley et al, 2020)
Whilst there is a responsibility on employers, employees also have a duty to take reasonable care of their own health and safety. (BITC, 2018)
We must not lose sight of what we must also do to protect ourselves and others mentally.
We hope you can use this guide to take positive action.
Mental health really is everyone’s business!
